NCA implementation path has deviated from a route to democracy and federal Union capable of guaranteeing national equality and self-determination when the current political situation is reviewed, said General Saw Mutu Say Poe, Chairman of Karen National Union (KNU).

Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) formed with ethnic NCA signatories resumed its meeting stopped for more than four months in Chiang Mai, Thailand on March 5.

“The NCA implementation has deviated from a route to democratic federal Union capable of guaranteeing national equality and self-determination we long for. It is required to review this point objectively. In spite of the deviation from the original route, all stakeholders need to negotiate the points prescribed in the NCA without harming original ones,” said General Saw Mutu Say Poe.

So as to control the direction, two chairmen of the KNU and the RCSS sent a letter stating three points to be discussed to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

General Saw Mutu Say Poe added that the points written in the letter were wanted to be discussed and they would discuss how to go on after seeking common approvals.

The letter was already sent to the leaders of ethnic NCA signatories. It was believed that the leaders and the representatives who were attending the meeting already brought the attitudes of the respective ethnic NCA signatories, said General Saw Mutu Say Poe.

The KNU and the RCSS take the view that it is required to create a positive move removing obstacles existing in the current peace process. For that reason, we are holding this meeting because we still need the extra-ordinary meeting, said General Saw Mutu Say Poe.
