Union Minister for Education, Dr. Nyunt Pe, announced that all educational institutions under the purview of the Ministry of Education, as well as those overseen by relevant ministries, will commence operations simultaneously on June 3.

This declaration came during a virtual conference with university rectors, college principals, and education officials on May 3.

Dr. Nyunt Pe emphasized the coordinated reopening of universities, colleges, and basic education schools. Preparatory measures must be undertaken diligently prior to the reopening, with a focus on ensuring cleanliness on school premises, enhancing the institutions' image, and striving for the full resumption of educational activities, especially in areas where closures persisted.

Furthermore, the Union Minister highlighted plans for nationwide participation in the December 2024 National Sports Festival. Upon the reopening of higher education and teacher training institutions in June, various sports competitions including football, volleyball, pipe jumping, and athletics will be organized. Central-level contests are slated for July in Nay Pyi Taw, with an inter-ministry football tournament scheduled for August, involving teams from higher education and teacher training institutions.

Notably, Dr. Nyunt Pe underscored the importance of incorporating sports activities into the curriculum of basic education schools, emphasizing the utilization of school libraries for academic pursuits. Collaboration between educational institutions and regional governments is essential to facilitate the reopening process in certain areas by June.

The Union Minister announced that starting the 2024-2025 academic year, universities and colleges will choose first-year students as outstanding students.
