DMH predicts heavy rain in seven States and five Regions including NPT

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has issued a severe weather alert for several states and regions in Myanmar.

Within the next two days, there may be rain in seven states and five regions, including Nay Pyi Taw council area.

Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in Sagaing Region and Kachin, Chin States, scattered in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Magway Regions, and Shan, Rakhine States and isolated in the remaining Regions and States.

The Cumulonimbus clouds are developing in Naypyitaw, Lower Sagaing, Magway Regions and Kachin, (Northern and Southern) Shan, Chin, Rakhine States. The area along the Cumulonimbus clouds movement, the weather phenomena such as strong winds accompanied with rain, thunder, lightning and hail may occur and therefore it is recommended to be aware in advance these phenomena.

Along the movement of these clouds, weather phenomena such as strong winds, accompanied by rain, thunder, lightning, and hail, may occur.

Residents are advised to be aware of these phenomena in advance.

Reports from residents reveal that the tempestuous winds ravaged approximately 100 houses in Pinghe Village, Moehnyin Township, on the afternoon of May 2.

Additionally, the region faced the tragic loss of 24 cows due to lightning strikes in Moe Kaung Township.

U Than Win, representing the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology in Moehnyin, commented, "We are currently experiencing strong winds, expected to reach speeds of approximately 35 to 40 miles per hour. These conditions arise when there is intense rainfall and cloud activity. Additionally, there have been reports of hailstones in the Moehnyin area. Such occurrences may persist until the onset of the monsoon season, with a potential risk of lightning."
