Chairman of the State Administration Council, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, emphasized his government's commitment to ensuring the accuracy of the voter list this year. He expressed intentions to proceed with elections in relevant regions of Myanmar if conditions permit peace and stability.

Speaking during an interview with ITAR-TASS Media of the Russian Federation at the Credentials Hall of Zeyathiri Beikman in the Yangon Region on the morning of March 18, he attributed the establishment of the State Administration Council to instances of electoral fraud. He reiterated the council's ultimate goal of conducting a free and fair election.

"After the State of Emergency period concludes, our intention is to facilitate elections and transfer state power to the National Defence and Security Council. Subsequently, we aim to conduct elections within six months under the leadership of the National Defence and Security Council. Priority will be given to ensuring the accuracy of the voter list to prevent any voting irregularities. Therefore, our focus this year is on managing the correctness of the voter list to the best of our ability. In the event of peace and stability, we plan to conduct elections in relevant areas, even if a nationwide election is not feasible under current circumstances," stated the Senior General.

He outlined two main factors affecting peace and stability in the country: post-State of Emergency disorder and strikes, and ongoing internal armed conflicts dating back to Myanmar's independence in 1948. Efforts to restore peace have been ongoing, including the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) in 2015, which remains a priority for the council.

"Our focus has been on maintaining the NCA and addressing the root causes of conflict. Lack of peace and stability has impeded Myanmar's development, underscoring the importance of our efforts to restore stability," emphasized the Senior General.

During the interview, discussions also touched upon Russian-Myanmar relations, the State Administration Council's assumption of power, measures taken in response to electoral irregularities, efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, economic revitalization initiatives, personal engagements, tourism, and matters pertaining to Buddhism.
