The 1,500-mile long Peace Bike Tour 2019 will commence on March 27 and despite its name, the event is not for staging a protest, said organizers at the press conference.

A press conference regarding the event took place at Myanmar Press Freedom Center in Yangon on March 25.

The organizers said that the event was aimed at contributing in its own way to ending internal armed conflict.

"You can say biking has nothing to do with the peace issue. But we can also say they are related. Every citizen has their desire to end civil war. This is why we organized such an event by launching our campaign under a peace topic. We are not staging a protest," said Thet Swe Win, one of the organizers.

The peace bike tour will start on March 27 with 35 people on 20 motorbikes. The bikers will set forth at Yangon-Mandalay junction and go along old Yangon-Mandalay Highway. They will spent the night in Taungoo.

The bikers will go from Taungoo to Loikaw on March 28, attend talks called 'youth voice' to be held in Taunggyi, go from Taunggyi to Mongshu on March 31, from Mongshu to Mongkai on April 1, from Mongkai to Lashio on April 2 and from Lashio PyinOoLwin on April 3. They will wind up their tour at Asia Light Monastery in PyinOoLwin. They will leave for Yangon on April 4 after short tour of Mandalay.

During the tour, the bikers will study regional knowledge and make cash donations.
