Chauk in Myanmar's Magway Region continues to broil, briefly reclaiming the title of the world's second-hottest city at 47.1 degrees Celsius according to Eldorado Weather's list published on April 27 at noon Myanmar time.

The scorching temperatures aren't unique to Chauk. Fellow Myanmar town NyaungU ranked 8th on the list with a scorching 44.7 degrees Celsius.

This heatwave isn't a recent development. Chauk has dominated the list of the world's hottest cities for most of April, even dropping to fourth place on April 26th before regaining its scorching position.

Myanmar's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) issued warnings of above-average temperatures throughout the country's central regions. Areas like Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady, Taninthayi, Shan, Kayah, and Mon States could see daytime highs exceeding April's average by a significant 1.5 degrees Celsius. Conversely, DMH predicts Kachin, Chin, Rakhine, and Kayin States may experience temperatures closer to the April average.

The situation is particularly concerning as Chauk already broke its 56-year temperature record on April 6, reaching a staggering 47.4 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous high of 47 degrees Celsius.

Tragically, these extreme temperatures have reportedly caused deaths across Myanmar's cities.
