Former Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Senior General (Retired) U Than Shwe, former SPDC Vice Chairman Vice-Senior General (Retired) U Maung Aye and former President U Thein Sein received Mr. Chen Hai, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw, according to a statement on the WeChat account of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar on April 5.

The embassy statement said the meeting was held before the Myanmar New Year Thingyan period.

In addition, the Chinese Ambassador met Daw Than Than Nu, the daughter of the former Prime Minister of Myanmar, U Nu and U Sein Win Aung, the former chairman of the Myanmar-China Friendship Association.

The China will continue to provide support for Myanmar's peace, stability and development. It will implement the global development initiative in coordination with Myanmar, the global security initiative and the global cultural thinking, and promote the building of a shared future and China-Myanmar community, the Chinese embassy said in a statement.

The former state leaders hoped that China will continue to provide assistance in Myanmar's peace and reconciliation and economic and people's livelihood development and they hoped that China is willing to continue to support Myanmar, the Chinese embassy said in a statement.

U Than Shwe and the head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Mr. Song Tao met once in Nay Pyi Taw in 2016.

After February 2021, after the establishment of the State Administration Council (SAC), the Director-General of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr. Peng Xiubin, visited U Than Shwe once in Nay Pyi Taw on April 18, 2023.

Similarly, during his visit to Nay Pyi Taw on May 2, 2023, Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Qin Gang held a meeting with U Than Shwe.
