Myanmar initiates trilateral talks to repatriate Chinese nationals from Myawady

The process of sending Chinese nationals, who arrived along the banks of the Moei River in Myawady, Myanmar-Thailand border, back to China with the negotiation between officials from the three countries has started on February 29, sources said.

As 977 Chinese nationals who stayed at the border of Myawady want to return home, on February 29, 150 Chinese nationals were transported to Mae Sot via the Myawady-Mae Sot No. 2 Friendship Bridge and started to be transported through Mae Sot International Airport to China.

The 150 Chinese citizens were taken from Mae Sot to China by Chinese authorities on two Airbus 319-320 aircrafts from China.

Among the Chinese nationals who are in the gambling business in the border town of Myawady, Kayin State, 977 have contacted the officials to return home of their own accord. According to the plan of the three countries' authorities, the remaining ones will continue to be transported to China from Mae Sot Airport three times a day from March 1 to 5.

The 150 Chinese nationals were deported under Section 7 (2) of the Myanmar Immigration (Emergency Provisions) Act of 1947.
