According to reports, a tragic incident occurred at Thabarwatayar Hospital near the trade zone in Myawady, Kayin State, on the morning of March 8, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to seven others due to the explosion of a heavy weapon.

Prompt action was taken by social relief associations to transfer the injured to alternative medical facilities, while elderly patients receiving care at Thabarwatayar Hospital were safely evacuated.

A charity worker at the hospital described the event, stating that early in the morning around 11 o'clock, heavy weapons fell on both the Sayadaw’s residence and the ward housing bedridden patients. Tragically, two patients lost their lives on the spot, and seven sustained injuries. No one was harmed as there were none when the explosion took place at the Sayadaw’s residence, but damage occurred to the hall and solar panels.

Hospital officials, including one who streamed live, confirmed the incident and detailed plans to assist the injured.

Following the explosion, police initiated an investigation at Myawady district hospital.

The Myawady Thabarwatayar hospital, which typically serves over 180 homeless, sick, and elderly individuals seeking treatment, faced challenges in managing the situation. In response, social relief associations swiftly coordinated the transfer of these vulnerable individuals to a school in Ward No. 3, Myawady, away from the conflict area. The relocation was facilitated using vehicles provided by the Myawady social relief associations.
