It is reported that the military regained control of the Kawtbain police station in Kawkareik Township, Kayin State on April 25.

On March 25, the Kawtbain police station faced an assault by a coalition of armed groups, including the Mon Liberation Army (MLA), New Mon State Party (AD), Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO), Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), and People’s Defence Force (PDF), operating under the banner of the Karen National Union (KNU). Following the attack, the combined forces  seized control of the Kawtbain police station. However, after nearly one month of occupation, the military managed to reclaim the area, restoring control over the previously captured territory.

The military is actively working to stabilize the regions of Kawkareik and Myawady, aiming to restore normalcy to border trade activities. On April 23, in a joint effort with the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), the military recaptured the light infantry division (275) in Myawady from the combined forces' control. Presently, the military has regained authority over the surrounding areas, including the Kawtbain police station in Kawkareik Township.

At present, there are ongoing clashes between the military, engaged in land clearing operations in Kawswe, Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State, and armed groups. Local reports indicate that civilians have tragically suffered casualties, with some killed and injured by gunfire.

Following the combined forces' attack and subsequent capture of the Kawtbain police station in Kawkareik Township on March 25, tensions heightened in the surrounding areas. During this period, over 300 homes in Damatha village, located in Kyaikmaraw Township, were demolished due to explosions from heavy weapons. Additionally, the conflict sparked at least two fires in Kyungone village near Tarana village.
