The 79th Anniversary Armed Forces Day ceremony will mark a change from tradition by being held in the evening on March 27.

Typically celebrated in the morning, this year's festivities will take place later in the day.

Journalists planning to cover the event are requested to arrive at the designated location on the afternoon of March 27.

This isn't the first time the ceremony has shifted to the evening. According to a former military official, a torch-lit ceremony was previously held at night.

"There have been instances in the past where it was done at night," the officer explained. "The parade columns marched with torches."

The security situation may be a factor behind the chosen timing, the officer added.

"It's possible due to security concerns," he said. "Early morning ceremonies require troops to wake up at 4 am, and it's still dark around 5 am. This minimizes risk."

On March 22, Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, inspected the Nay Pyi Taw military parade ground where participating columns were engaged in a full-dress rehearsal.
