Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State, and Kawkareik Township, Kayin State witnessed the return of 220 residents from Dhammathat, Tayana, and Kawthat villages, along with 485 locals from Kawbein Village. These individuals had temporarily fled due to conflicts in the region.

The villages of Dhammathat and Kawbein were previously seized by various armed groups, including the Mon Liberation Army (MLA), New Mon State Party (AD), Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO), Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), and the People’s Defence Force (PDF).

However, recent developments have seen the military reclaim control over these territories. On April 22, the Dhammathat village was recaptured, followed by the Kawbein village on April 25.

Officials have extended a warm welcome to the returning residents, providing assistance and healthcare services. The Chief Minister of Mon State and other officials have personally met with and comforted the residents, offering food and provisions.
