Recent reports from charity associations in Mandalay highlight a concerning trend that is a surge in deaths attributed to rising temperatures, with a notable increase in heat stroke cases compared to typical medical conditions.

The Manisala Social Assistance Association, based in Mandalay, alerted the public to the escalating numbers of heat stroke patients during the summer of 2024, underscoring the critical need for awareness and preventive measures. Most affected individuals are elderly, aged 45 and above. An official from the association emphasized the daily assistance provided due to the heat, with a predominant occurrence of heat stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes-related issues.

Specific incidents underscore the severity of the situation. On April 24, a man collapsed while waiting to purchase edible oil at the corner of 33rd Street x 85th Street in Chanaye Tharzan Township, while on April 23, a woman succumbed to diabetes aggravated by the intense heat that came to the clinic in Mandalay from Wontho during travel. Earlier in April, another woman perished due to extreme temperatures while shopping near Mandalay Market. These incidents underscore the urgent need for public vigilance and proactive measures against heat-related health risks.
