The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allies attacked the military security gate at the entrance of Mongna Village at the Bala Minhtin Bridge, which connects Myitkyina and Waimaw in Kachin State, according to witnesses.

''The armed groups came with three or four cars and attacked using heavy weapons. It was only 500 feet away. It didn’t take long. I don't know what happened again. It's been a while. The fire was caused by a heavy shell. I saw a car and a motorcycle on fire. People nearby ran away in fear. I haven't heard of civilians being hit yet. One policeman was killed. Two were injured. People lived nearby move to other relatives' houses as they don’t dare to spend at night there,'' he said.

Bala Minhin Bridge was temporarily closed due to the shooting and reopened at 5 pm.

The KIA attacked the gate on June 23, 2021 and injured a traffic policeman.
