Mandalay authorities apprehended a group who impersonated police officers to rob a goldsmith shop on March 28, according to the State Administration Council's Information Team.

The announcement detailed that around 5:00 pm, four individuals, one dressed as a police officer, entered the Lin Let War goldsmith shop on 22nd Street, East Thiri Mala Ward, Aungmyethazan Township, claiming to conduct an inspection. They then proceeded to the third floor and stole approximately 2 viss (roughly 3.6 kilograms) of various gold items valued at around 1 billion kyats (approximately $588,000 USD) from a safe.

Following the incident, a lawsuit was filed against the perpetrators. The first suspect, Myat Thu Aung from Aung Thukha Ward, Patheingyi Township, was apprehended at his residence on April 7th. Based on his confession, authorities located and arrested the remaining three individuals involved in the robbery.

The Information Team further revealed that Ko Ko Naing, a former employee of the goldsmith industry in Aungmyaethazan Township, allegedly tipped off the group about the business. He, along with two other accomplices who aided in the crime, were also taken into custody.

The report states that after twelve days on the run, the suspects were apprehended with an unlicensed vehicle and a pistol. The relevant police station is currently pursuing legal action against them in accordance with the existing law.
