Indonesian embassy receives Pagaruyung delegation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - The  Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam received a visit from the Pagaruyung ties delegation led by Gadih Professor Dr Ir Puti Reno Raudha as the family descendant of the Daulat Yang Di-Pertuan Raja Pagaruyung last Saturday.

Accompanying the delegation were the Minang descendants who are from the third generation of the Dato Godam descendants in Brunei.

The courtesy visit by the delegate of 28 serves to re-strengthen ties since the hundred years of the arrival of Dato Godam to Brunei in the 17th Century.

Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sujatmiko received the courtesy visit as a form of diplomacy between the Indonesia-Brunei community.

During the two-day visit, the delegation met with the Brunei community of Minang descendants and the Minang descendants’ community in Brunei. Dato Godam or Raja Umar bin Bendahara Harun is the prince of the Minangkabau government who came to Brunei during the reign of Sultan Nasruddin, who was the 15th Sultan of Brunei during the period from 1690 to 1710.

This courtesy visit re-strengthens ties between the Indonesia-Brunei community that have been established for  hundreds of years where apart from West Sumatera, there are also records of Bruneians of Banjar, Cirebon, Sambas, Riau and Palembang descendants.
