The woman who has been filed a lawsuit against for broadcasting live on Facebook saying the military would stage a coup is at large, said Yangon Region MP Tun Yin for Dala Township Constituency (1) on January 5.

“Yes, she is on the run. She has not been under arrest though the police station has opened a case against her. Now, she has gone into hiding. We heard she was at hospital when we filed the lawsuit. The police’s delays in her arrest amounted to facilitating her escape. There is no need to seek permission from superiors. If a lawsuit is filed against a civilian, arrest must be made at once. Permission has to be sought only for arresting civil servants, the law says,” the MP said.

According to the MP, the woman who acted as a polling station observer for the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in the 2020 general election went live on Facebook saying the military would stage a coup. Therefore, a case was opened at the police station concerned against her under Section 68 (a) of the telecommunications law.

When contacted to ask about the case, a policeman on duty from Dala Myoma Police Station said only the officer dealing with the case could clarify.

Section 68 (a) of the telecommunications law stipulates that anyone who commits acts such as communications, reception, transmission, distribution or conveyance of incorrect information with dishonesty or participation shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to a fine or to both.
