A recent update from the Health Department of Kyaikhto Township reveals the rediscovery of a COVID-19 positive female patient in the area.
The patient, a 67-year-old woman from Kyauktan Lay Village, sought medical assistance at Theinzayat District Hospital due to sudden breathing difficulties on May 10. Subsequent investigations by the Kyaikhto Township Health Department revealed that she had not received the COVID-19 vaccine.
The patient is currently undergoing isolation and treatment at Theinzayat District Hospital, while six individuals who had close contact with her have been tested for the virus. Although they tested negative, they are following isolation protocols at home with restricted movement.
This case marks the first COVID-19 infection in 2024 in Mon State, as confirmed by the Kyaikhto Township Health Department. Authorities also announced the ongoing administration of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in various health departments, emphasizing the importance of receiving additional doses after six months. Reflecting on the previous peak in 2022, Mon State recorded 5,193 confirmed COVID-19 cases, resulting in 83 deaths, according to the Mon State Department of Public Health.
