Water level in Chindwin River is reached above its danger level in Hkamti Township making 101 family households to evacuate and it is over two feet below its danger level in Homalin Township.

According to the observation made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) on July 14, the Water level in Chindwin River is reached 1,380 centimeters in Hkamti Township and 2,826 centimeters in Homalin Township.

Flood water entered villages in lower areas of Hkamti Township and 101 family households are evacuated, according to Khin Maung Sint, head of the township general administrative department.

“The water level in Chindwin River was reached above its danger level at midnight yesterday. But the situation is not very worse. The flood water only overflowed Aung Thar sluice gate in Hkamti . 13 family households from Shwe Myintmo Village, 66 family households from Sinthay Village and 22 family households from Chaungwa Village are evacuated to nearby villages. We have opened flood relief camp but no flood victim is come yet. Only flood water covered in the village. We have alerted people from villages and town to be careful of flood since yesterday,” he said.

“Water level in Chindwin River is not reached to the danger level in Homalin Township but water level is increased in Hkamti Township. So we are carried out preparations for the flood. We are collecting lists to evacuate if the water level is increased above its danger level. We are worried that the flood would occur in night time. But it is least likely. Flood water only entered into fields and lakes near the villages,” said Thet Naing Soe, deputy head of Homalin Township general administrative department.

According to the DMH, water level in Chindwin River is still increased in Hkamti and Homalin townships.
