Union parliament approved to have a loan of Baht 1.458 billion from Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (Public Organization) (NEDA) for the Ministry of Electricity and Energy on May 14.

The approval was clarified by Dr Tun Naing, Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy at the parliament session after questions raised by the MPs.

The ministry is planning to build and upgrade sub-power stations in Yangon Region to meet the demand for family households and industrial zones in 2020-21 FY with the fund of Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC), he said.

The YESC is planning to ask the list of advisory teams from Thailand from the NEDA, to invite tenders from the advisory teams in line with rules and regulations, to scrutinize proposals from the advisory teams in line with tender rules and regulations and to seek advice from the NEDA in line with loan agreement. The selection process of contractor is the same with the selection process of advisory team, he said.

According to the loan agreement, the YESC needs to buy at least 50 per cent of the cost of machinery from Thailand. The YESC has full authority to buy the machinery and to choose the service, he said.
