In the violent crackdowns on protestors in Bago on February 28, two were reportedly killed with many injured.

As the police and military were deployed near Bago Pagoda, a usual place for protest columns to gather, the protestors decided to meet instead at Thanat Pin Road, marching on towards Yangon along Bago-Yangon Road.

Police and military followed them, causing the tail end of the protest column to stop and turn to face them. They were soon struck with tear gas bombs.

Police and military units advanced all the way up until the western portion of the Bago river-crossing bridge with continued usage of sound grenades and tear gas.

The columns that were ahead toward Yangon turned back and joined those at back at the end. The police and military opened fired with rubber bullets mixed in with live rounds, which killed two and injuring at least 13.

Protestors disbanded around 2.30pm following the brutal crackdown.
