Residents of Yangon, Mandalay, Magway, and Mon are grappling with severe drinking water shortages exacerbated by soaring temperatures and frequent power outages.

In Yangon, particularly in high-rise buildings across townships like Sanchaung, Thaketa, Hlaing, North Okkalapa, and South Okkalapa, residents are facing acute water scarcity due to irregular electricity supply. Desperate for assistance, locals have turned to social welfare organizations for help.

"The electricity comes for a short time and so it was impossible to get water. There are 12 rooms in the building, so the people living in the building gathered and asked for help from the social assistance groups. We have to pay for fuel," shared a resident of Yangon's Sanchaung Township.

Similar situations are reported in Mandalay Region's Kyauk Padaung, Mon State's Nyaung U, Kyaikhto, and Chaung Zone, where villages are in dire need of drinking water. The Myanmar Fire Brigade has stepped in to provide relief, delivering approximately 4,800 gallons of water to Ngathayauk in Shwe Latpyan ward, 1,600 gallons to villages in Nyaung U, and another 4,800 gallons to Yenanchaung Township, Magway Region.

Officials from Mawlamyine-based Social Assistance and Relief Organizations highlighted the urgency, especially in Chaungzone Township, where people fleeing conflict seek refuge in monasteries and schools.

"There are also people fleeing the war and sheltering in the monasteries and schools in Chaungzone Township, so there is a need for drinking water. That's why we regularly go and donate drinking water every two days," emphasized an official from the Mawlamyine Social Assistance and Relief Group.
