Bago Region cracks down on illegal trade

The Illegal Trade Eradication Leading Committee (ITELC) reported the seizure of over 84 million kyats worth of illegal goods in Bago Region.

This crackdown on illegal trade is being conducted in accordance with prevailing laws.

On April 22, a combined team from the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Squad conducted inspections at the Nyaungkharshay X-Ray checkpoint. Two vehicles, one travelling from Thamanya to Yangon and the other from Hpa-an to Mandalay, were found to be carrying illegal goods.

The authorities seized 6,000 cases of Lactasoy (valued at 12,850,000 kyats), 75 table fans of Caribbean and Sun Smile brands (unspecified value), and two Yutong vehicles used for transporting the illegal goods (valued at 70 million kyats).

These items will be processed according to customs procedures.

Additionally, inspections across Bago District, Toungoo District, and Pyay District resulted in the confiscation of the following illegal timber: 1.764 tons of teak (valued at approximately 1,468,745,000 kyats), 0.656 tons of hardwood (unspecified value), and 2.251 tons of other types of timber (unspecified value).

The total value of the confiscated timber is estimated at 84,318,745 kyats. These will be handled according to the Forest Law.

In total, there were seven seizures on April 22, with a combined value of 84,318,745 kyats.
