Fierce fighting is taking place around the Thai-Myanmar No. 2 Friendship Bridge in Myawady, Kayin State on the morning of April 20, sources said.
The security forces stationed in the cargo yard near the Thailand-Myanmar No. 2 Friendship Bridge were bombed by drones from the KNU, KNLA and PDF joint groups at around 6:39 pm on April 19.
"Revolutionary forces blocked and attacked the soldiers stationed in the cargo yard near No. 2 Bridge. The military has been carrying out aerial bombardments since last night and on the morning of April 20. The fighting is still intense till 10 am today," said a resident of Myawady.
Currently, Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 2 is closed, and locals living near the bridge have been fleeing the war since yesterday night.
According to reports from the Thai side, due to the fighting going on near the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 2, Thailand is also monitoring the situation with CCTV cameras and preparing for military action.
"On the Thai side, both the Thai border guards and the army are closely monitoring the situation with weapons. The fighting is near the border, so there are explosions of large weapons on the Thai side," said a Myanmar citizen from Mae Sot located on the other side of the Myawady.
Currently, there is fierce fighting around the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 2, but the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1 is open as usual and Myawady residents are also monitoring the situation and are prepared to escape from the war if it gets closer to the town, according to the residents.
