Myanmar military columns reportedly launched an operation on June 9 against People's Defence Force (PDF) members who had entered Ngar Lone Tin Village, located along the Chaung-U–Yesagyo road in Sagaing Region.
According to reports, PDF members had established bases inside Ngar Lone Tin Village by constructing bunkers with sandbags in civilian homes, religious buildings, and schools. They were also accused of unlawfully arresting, torturing, and killing local residents, Buddhist monks, and government employees carrying out their duties in nearby villages.
The reports further stated that PDFs had been collecting money from cargo trucks and passenger vehicles and carrying out arbitrary arrests along the Monywa–Sagaing and Chaung-U–Yesagyo transportation routes.
Military columns reportedly conducted preparations and troop deployments in Chaung-U Township before launching a counter-terrorism operation against PDF groups based in Ngar Lone Tin Village. The offensive began on June 5 with multiple columns advancing into the area.
During the operation, military forces reportedly recaptured Myan Cho Village, which had been temporarily controlled by insurgents, on June 6. On June 8, they also seized the Gu Gyi Monastery and Sin Mye Village. By the afternoon of June 9, military forces had reportedly regained control of Ngar Lone Tin Village and its surrounding areas, causing PDF members to retreat.
According to the military, two bodies of alleged insurgents, four firearms of various types, one homemade fixed-wing drone, and related equipment were seized during the operation.
