Myanmar Consul General meets Chiang Mai officials to boost border trade and tourism

U Min Kyaw Lin, Consul General of Myanmar in Chiang Mai, met with the governor of Chiang Mai Province and the mayor of Chiang Mai City to discuss cooperation for the development of border trade and tourism between Myanmar and Thailand.

The Myanmar Consul General separately met with Chiang Mai Mayor Assanee Buranupakorn at the mayor's office and Chiang Mai Governor Nirat Pongsittaworn at the governor's office on May 14. 

During the meetings, the Consul General emphasized the long history of communication and cultural similarities between Myanmar and northern Thailand, including Chiang Mai (Zin Mai), and highlighted the strong relations established since ancient times.

The Consul General also expressed Myanmar's commitment to improving relations with Thailand and enhancing friendship between the people of both countries. 

The discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation between the nine northern provinces of Thailand, which fall under the Consulate General's jurisdiction, and Myanmar's eastern Shan State region. Key topics included the development of border trade and the tourism sector.
