Daw Htay Htay Win, the embassy clerk at the Myanmar Embassy in Paris, France, sought political protection and was absent without permission as she did not want to return to Myanmar due to her personal difficulties at the end of her overseas service period, announced the information team of the State Administration Council (SAC).

She has been absent from her duties without permission since June 20, 2024, it said.

After she received the summons order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to return to Myanmar for the completion of her service period in France, she submitted her family list to return to Myanmar and requested the embassy to allow her son to continue his education in France. She attended office regularly and performed office duties until June 18, 2024, it said.

On that day, she said she would like to take one-day leave on June 19, 2024 to inquire about the admissions requirements of the university where her son will continue his education, and to allow her family's passports to be temporarily taken out, and the ambassador gave her permission, it said.

As she did not report back to the embassy until 10 am on June 20, 2024, embassy officials checked and found that she had left her home without any personal belongings and had left permanently, according to the SAC.

Daw Htay Htay Win actively fulfilled her duties while working at the Myanmar Embassy in Paris, and she is one of the employees who will return to work in Myanmar after completing her overseas service period, according to the SAC.

However, she did not want to return to Myanmar due to her personal and social difficulties, such as her son's continuing education in France and her daughter's medical treatment, so she sought political protection and she was absent without permission with her husband, son and daughter. Local and foreign opposition organizations are using it for political purposes and spreading propaganda, it said.
