The Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) announced that some townships in Yangon will be out of power due to the replacement of the new CVT of the Thilawa power line.

The YESC has announced that the main bus of the Thanlyin main substation will be shut down from 11 am to 2 pm on June 23 to replace the new CVT of the 230 KV Thilawa power line.

While carrying out the work, there will be temporary power outages in some neighborhoods of Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Thonekwa, Dagon Myothit (Seikkan), East Dagon, South Dagon, North Dagon and Shwepaukkan townships and it will focus on the power outage not to last long and reducing the area of power outages, announced the YESC.

In the current power generation, natural gas is used in thermal power plants, and the electricity production ratio is about 50 percent, but as the availability of natural gas is decreasing, the ability to produce electricity from natural gas power plants is also decreasing by about 446 MW during this period. There is a net reduction of about 799 megawatts in the production of hydropower and natural gas plants from the installed capacity of the machines, the statement said.

In the monsoon season of 2023, they can only produce about 2,800 MW per day on average, which is only about 50 percent of the demand due to the rainfall which continues to be below normal and not getting enough water in the dams, to ensure a continuous and stable supply of electricity to the entire country within the power system, to ensure that there are no power outages during the period before the rain from November to June as the previously stored water must be adjusted and electricity produced, and natural gas supply which is not regulated and sufficient and the installed machines are not able to operate at full power.
