Authorities hand over 2,201 people illegally staying in Myanmar through border areas

Myanmar government has handed over a total of 2,201 people who entered Myanmar illegally through the border to the relevant officials, according to the State Administration Council (SAC).

With a commitment to upholding national stability and law enforcement, especially in border areas, the government is addressing the challenge of foreign nationals entering and residing in Myanmar illegally. Administrative bodies are diligently verifying the status of these individuals and facilitating their repatriation to their respective countries in compliance with the law.

From February 9 to March 5, 2024, 1,969 Chinese citizens, 38 Vietnamese citizens, 93 Thai citizens, 33 Indian nationals and 24 Indonesian nationals, altogether 2,201 foreigners  were identified and transferred again.

From October 5, 2023, to March 5, 2024, a comprehensive screening process identified a total of 58,220 foreign nationals, predominantly 50,772 Chinese nationals. These individuals underwent necessary verifications in accordance with legal procedures and were systematically repatriated to their home countries.

The government intends to persist in its efforts to screen and repatriate foreign nationals who have illegally entered and settled in border areas, underscoring its commitment to upholding national sovereignty and security.
