Yangon--There are still sufficient stocks of rice in the domestic rice market, according to a statement issued by the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) on 24 March.

The MRF requested the public to avoid spreading fake news and propaganda as well as urging direct calls to the MRF, its brother’s associations and wholesale brokerage centers.

It requested members of the MRF to share information on the availability of quality rice at the real price, and the pictures depicting rice trading, on social media every day.

The MRF called on all brokerage centers and rice shops to join this activity as a campaign.

The MRF requested rice millers, merchants and companies not to sell off their rice stocks and to dutifully keep the suitable amount of reserve rice stocks for their regions.

Farmers and villagers are requested to avoid mass gatherings, donations and wedding receptions and the returnees in villages, to abide by the directives issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports, the statement says.

MRF’s member companies plan to donate money and rice. More details will be announced later.

The MRF (headquarters) has set a Contingency & Service Continuity Plan and formed the MRF COVID-19 Response Task Force. The MRF will carry out its works via phone, email, Viber, and Facebook Messenger without any person-to-person contact.
