State Counsellor concludes visits to China, Cambodia

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi arrived back in Nay Pyi Taw from her trip to the People's Republic of China and Cambodia on the evening of May 1.

The State Counsellor started her visit on April 24 to attend the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China, and proceeded to Cambodia on an official visit on April 29.

During her visit to Cambodia, Aung San Suu Kyi, together with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Cambodia Prak Sokhonn visited Angkor Wat where she offered flowers, water, oil lights and scented sticks to the Buddha Image.

The State Counsellor also visited the Bayon Temple.

While in China, the State Counsellor also called on Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on April 25 and attended the signing ceremony of Myanmar-China memorandum of understandings (MoUs) and agreements held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the Ministry of Information reported.

Moreover, the State Counsellor and the Chinese Premier discussed cooperation under the belt and road cooperation framework for development of road communications and transport infrastructure in Myanmar, continued import of a quota of 100,000 tons of Myanmar rice to China, discussion and negotiation to increase purchase of Myanmar agricultural and animal products, peace and stability along the border of the two countries, eradication of illegal border trade to increase bilateral trade volume, coordination on prevention of human trafficking and strengthening of cooperation in all sectors on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020.

The State Counsellor's Office also reported that the Myanmar delegation led by Aung San Suu Kyi and the Chinese delegation led by President Xi Jinping met in Beijing on April 24.
