Southwest monsoon wind is entered southern areas of Myanmar, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) on May 24.

The announcement said the southwest monsoon wind entered southern areas of Myanmar, Andaman Sea and southeast of Bay of Bengal within 24 hours.

“The monsoon season started on May 23 but it is not strong. There are rain clouds and weather phenomenon may occur like pre-rainy season,” said Hla Tun, Deputy Director of the DMH.

Although the southwest monsoon wind entered southern areas of Myanmar, strong wind, thunderbolts, hailstones and regionally heavy rainfall may occur in middle areas of Myanmar where the monsoon season is not started yet.

Normally, the monsoon season started around May 18 in Myanmar and now it is started after May 20.
