The Mongpon Bridge on Taunggyi-Loilem Road in Shan State (Southern) has been reported to remain closed for six days, sources said.

The road was closed due to fighting between Tatmadaw, the PNO militia and the alliance of the Pa-O National Liberation Army on the hill between Hopong and Mongpon on the morning of February 21. Due to the fighting, the residents of nearby villages are fleeing.

On February 22, the Taunggyi-Hopong-Mongpon-Loilem road was closed indefinitely after fighting broke out in the hills near Mongpon.

Large cargo vehicles and many passenger vehicles had to wait in line as Mongpon Bridge has been blocked.

Passenger vehicles have to travel from Panglong-Kyauktan Road as the road to pass through the Mongpon Bridge is closed, so residents are advised to drive cautiously on Kyauktan Road which is steep.

On February 26, according to a person who returned from the road section, there were about five overturned vehicles, and one of them had the appearance of being overturned today. He said that those who have never been on the mountain or downhill road should be careful.

On February 23 and February 24, vehicle accidents occurred frequently in this section, making travel difficult. Due to the lack of road safety, it is difficult for social assistance groups to travel and help, according to U Lao Yoan, a social assistance worker in Panglong.

"On February 24, a driver and women were injured. A 12-wheeler fell down from the mountain," said U Lao Yoan.
