More than 900 prisoners were released from Insein Prison on Myanmar New Year Day at 12;10 pm on April 17.

They were transported to their respective townships by YBS buses at noon. "The number of people released from Insein prison will be more than 900. According to the list, there will be about 913 and the numbers of women are not much," said a person close to Insein prison.

The State Administration Council granted pardon to 3303 prisoners in various jails on April 17. The State Administration Council Chairman has pardoned 3,303 male and female prisoners who are serving their terms at respective prisons, jails and camps under the Code of Criminal Procedure Article 401 (1) on the condition that “they will have to serve the new punishment together with the remaining punishment to which they were sentenced this time if more offence is committed”, in commemorating Myanmar new year, on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
