Some clashes between Tatmadaw (government army) and Arakan Army (AA) kept on in Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State. Local people from Myomachaung village in Laymyo village tract, Buthidaung fled to the monastery in Kyarnyopyin village because they were at risk of heavy weapons on the morning of January 6. 

Shells from heavy weapons fell and exploded on the night of January 5 and the similar attack occurred on the morning of January 6. For that reason, local people fled to by schooner as they were worried about the possible attack of heavy weapons, said resident Zaw Tun Oo.

“The shells from heavy weapons fell in our street last night. We, the villagers, lost sleep throughout the night and we had to sit all the time. Also this morning, we saw the shell falling down. As we were afraid of that, we had to flee. No one was hurt, but everyone dared not continue living in the village, Zaw Tun Oo continued to say.

Some clashes between Tatmadaw and AA continue in Buthidaung at the present time. The fighting area was still far from our village. Although we were away from the fighting, no one knew why the heavy weapon fell, Zaw Tun Oo added.

“Fighting is taking place in our Buthidaung Tsp, especially here and there. A large number of displaced persons are arriving, said Lower House MP Aung Thaung representing Buthidaung Township.

The number of displaced persons has reached more than 40 at the monastery in Kyarnyopyin village. The displaced persons are in a difficult state of food and shelter. The aged persons and those who remain in the village are also the same matter, said Lower House MP Aung Thaung representing Buthidaung Township.

There are three villages in Laymyo village tract. At present, only those from Myomachaung village were fleeing. If the situation is worse than now, the local people will be more likely to flee, said Lower House MP Aung Thaung representing Buthidaung Township.

“Shells of heavy weapons are falling. We dare not continue living in the village. We are worried about the possibility of being arrested. We have no idea which side will arrest us. Some are being arrested. Now is a worried situation,” said Zaw Tun Oo.
