Shan Nationalities League for Democracy has issued a statement calling on the government with a sense of responsibility to take action against the shooting of three SNLD members in public in Kyaukme Township, Shan State.

The shooting occurred on November 3 afternoon, Mongtin Village-tract Administrator Sai Tun Yin (aged 36), Head of Narmon Village Sai Aung Thein (aged 47) and former Head of Lwelewel Village Sai Thein Han (aka) Lone Thu Zeya.

The three were SNLD members and the party categorically denounced any group or organization responsible for the killings, the statement pointed out.

Kyaukme is the seat of SNLD district office and the shooting of the three people in broad daylight is a serious challenge to the rule of law of the Union, the statement said.

"In the 2015 election declaration of the NLD (National League for Democracy), priority is given to the rule of law. But it is weakening now. They are also weak in taking responsibility and accountability. A lack of effective action will lead to the lack of the rule of law," said SNLD Spokesperson Sai Leik.

Finally, the statement called on the Union government, state governments concerned or security officials take action with a sense of responsibility without turning a blind eye to the killing of monks in Shan State or innocent civilians in Rakhine State.
