Amid the ongoing conflict in Myawaddy Township, the Royal Thai Army and border guards are ramping up security measures along the border. The unrest, which erupted on March 7 in and around Thingan Nyinaung Village, situated on the Myanmar-Thailand border, has prompted heightened vigilance on the Thai side, it is reported.
Thai troops are conducting security patrols across five townships, with a particular focus on Mae Sot, in close proximity to the Thaungyin River along the border according to man living in the border area.
"The conflict in Myanmar is dangerously close to Thai border. To preempt any potential spillover, Thailand is bolstering security in bordering townships. However, it's essential to note that Thailand does not currently accept refugees," emphasized a resident of Mae Sot.
Given the strategic significance of Thingan Nyinaung, which has witnessed three days of intense combat, there's a possibility of Myanmar refugees seeking sanctuary on the Thai side, the resident added.
