The People's Party will make a decision to choose candidates and constituencies for the general election to be held in 2020 only later this year, said the party’s General Secretary Ye Naing Aung.

"Our decision over the election will come only at the end of 2019. Now, we are reviewing the situation. Our overall review is for the whole country. Another thing is that we review the organizational strength of our party. The decision will come by the end of 2019," said Ye Naing Aung.

People's Party could not compete in the November 3 by-election because of a dispute over choosing party name at that time.

For a registered political party, it needs to compete in at least three constituencies.

"As we are making preparations for the election, we have to consider who will be chosen. It is like collecting data, said the party's general secretary.

Before People's Party was registered, it had two names Four Eights Party and Four Eights People's Party but faced criticisms.

After being allowed for registration, People's Party met with ethnic political parties. It also met the ruling National League for Democracy on June 17.
