The opening of ceremony Myitnge dry port took place near Myitnge locomotive factory in Amarapura Township in Mandalay Region on January 23.

In June, 2017, Myanmar Railways implemented the dry port project in cooperation with local and foreign companies. The dry port aims to carry goods via containers along the Yangon-Mandalay railroad section.

Aung Myint Hlaing, General Manager of Economic Division under Myanmar Railways said: “The Ywarthargyi dry port, built by KM Terminal and Logistics Company and RS Logistics Company, was put into service in November 2018. This is the KM logistics’ dry port. It needs to have a road network linking ships, cars and trains in order to reduce commodity prices. We had to wait 30 years to operate such container service. The dry port started running with a 11 coache container train in August 2017. By now, it has run container trains 103 times.  The plan is under way to operate container trains round the clock during when passenger trains don’t operate.”

Nyi Htut, General Manager (Myanmar) of KM Terminal and Logistics Company said: “The main purpose of KM terminal logistics is to ship goods from the upper Myanmar with a one stop service. It directly aims to take out imported goods in Mandalay. There will be insurance guarantee for owners of goods. The company will pay compensations to the owners if the goods are damaged or lost in transit and/or arrive late for shipment. This is our advantage in the cargo transport business. We cannot designate the fixed rates like other international countries. The rates are based on diesel prices and other expenditures.

The dry port was built by a local company and a foreign company on over 75-acre land owned by the MR.  One stop service is available at the dry port which includes customs and inspection, banks and insurance services.
