Myawady-Mae Sot border crossing tightened, temporary passes suspended

Effective April 21 morning, access across Myawady-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 1 on the Myanmar-Thailand border using temporary border passes has been suspended. This applies to both those with temporary passes and border pass booklets.

A bridge authority confirmed that the bridge itself remains open, but Thailand has restricted entry using these temporary passes. Passport holders are still permitted to cross.

Myawady-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge No. 2 is currently closed due to earlier fighting near the bridge.

A recent war refugee reported that clashes near Myawady forced residents to flee towards the Thai border. However, Thai authorities denied entry to those without passports, leaving thousands stranded on the Myanmar side overnight.
