Labour rights in Mae Sot, Thailand where more than 250,000 Myanmar nationals work in, are still being violated.
Grievances include low wages, said Moe Kyaw, head of the office of Yaung Chi Oo Workers' Association.
Yaung Chi Oo Workers' Association, working for the cause of Myanmar worker rights in Thailand, celebrated the 20th founding anniversary in Mae Sot on June 9 morning.
"There are over 400 factories in Mae Sot. There are over 250,000 Myanmar migrant workers working at factories as well as construction and agricultural sites, shops and others. Under the law passed by the Thai government, a worker earns 310 baht for eight working hours. For Myanmar migrant workers, there are only about five factories including TK that pay full wages. Other factories and worksites pay only 150 or 200 baht. Workers there are not paid 310 baht prescribed by the Thai law. Moreover, their worker rights are being violated in other health and social sectors," said Moe Kyaw.
