Mine attack hits passenger bus in Bilin Township, killing one

The bus from Aung Kyaw Moe Bus Line was traveling on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway when it was attacked between mileposts (131/1) and (131/2) near Shwe Yaungpya Village on the evening of April 4, killing a bus helper and injuring two men and a woman, according to sources.

There were a driver, two bus helpers, 28 men and 17 women on board and it was coming from Ayeyawady Region to Mawlamyine, it is reported.

“Ko Zin Ko Latt, who was bus helper, died at the scene with a bullet wound in the neck. Another bus helper Ko Zeya Tun, passengers U Tun Tun from Set San Village, Bogale Township, Ayeyawady Region, and Ma Hnin Wai Zin from Yegyaw Chaung Village, Myanaung Township, Ayeyawady Region, were also injured during attacks,” said the man.

The attack not only caused casualties but also significant damage to the bus, with the front windshield, side mirrors, and body being affected by the landmines and subsequent shooting.

Efforts are being made to provide medical assistance to the injured, with social assistance organizations transporting them to Theinseik stationed hospital in Thaton Township. 

An ambulance was hit by a mine and attacked with weapons on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway near Kamar Kasai Village, Don Wone village tract, Thaton Township on the night of March 27 and the ambulance driver and the patient were injured.
