The charter change supporters rallied near City Hall in Yangon Region on July 17 to show their support for the report of the 45 members of the Constitutional Amendment Committee submitted to the parliament.

Thousands of constitutional amendment supporters arrived since early morning to hold a rally and that writer Tharawun (Pyay) clarified the purpose of holding a mass rally.

"There are some people thinking that the rally is organized by the State. I will clearly speak to you this rally is nothing to do with both the government and the NLD. The CSOs and genuine civilians who want the country to be prosperous arranged this event ," said writer Tharawun (Pyay).

The people want constitutional amendment and that is not meant for the interests of the NLD and the Yangonites, writer Tharawun (Pyay) added.

I want to tell the aim of the mass rally. We all come together to support the charter change and we don't want to amend the charter to serve the interest of either the NLD or the government. Our burning desire of the charter change is intended for the interests of all 135 national races, said writer Tharawun (Pyay).

The charter change supporters chanted slogans to support for the report of the 45 members of the Constitutional Amendment Committee submitted to the parliament.

"We support the move of amending the Constitution whoever does. The interesting points contain in the submitted report. Today will be some kind of preliminary event. We suppose that the event would change in a different one after July 22. The idea that whether the political situation may change and the relations between the military and the civilians may change is very interesting. Now is the good time for Tatmadaw and that can win the return of trust from the people," said Myat Kyaw, a supporter of constitutional amendment.

The rally was joined by thousands of supporters including lawyers, activists and writers and petitions were also collected for charter change.
