Many people killed in North Okka crackdown on March 3

At least 20 people were killed when security forces fired live ammunitions to unarmed protestors in North Okkalapa Township in Yangon on March 3 evening.

Doctors in the North Okkalapa Hospital said that they received seven bodies and gave treatment to many wounded people according to news confirmed around 11:00 pm on that day. It said 2 bodies arrived after the cracked down in the morning and another 5 bodies were sent to the hospital aftermath of the evening cracked down.

Security forces fired live ammunitions on the peaceful protestors early in the morning and dispersed the crowd. They then entered the streets and wards and committed brutalities according to locals in these streets. They also detained many protestors there.

“We demanded the release of people arrested during protest at the North Okkalapa traffic light. They had detained people, their vehicles stopped at the YP petroleum shop. They then asked us to send a protest leader. As we had no leaders, we agreed not to go to meet them. In the evening, when they prepared to leave the area, they used tear bomb and rubber bullets. When they passed circular road, near Denko petroleum shop, they started fired us with live rounds,” said a woman who witnessed the cracked down.

Gunshot wound victims are being treated in the North Okkalapa hospital and the exact number of fatalities were not able to confirmed till now. 

According to unconfirmed sources and news on social media, 32 people were killed, nearly 90 were wounded  in North Okkalapa brutal cracked down  on unarmed civilians.
