A request letter of Pado Saw Shwe Maung, chairman of the Dooplaya District of the Karen National Union (KNU), who was called on the National Unity Government (NUG) to withdraw the state of emergency and refrain from military action based in the Kayin State, appeared on social media.

On September 7, the NUG declared a state of emergency in the entire nation, and on the same day, a request letter was issued by the KNU Dooplaya district chairman, who signed the petition himself.

The letter was reported by KIC, a local news outlet, on September 8 and it said quoting Pado Saw Shwe Maung “We don’t want the NUG to face the difficulties again like we did before. I expressed my opinion that it would be best to resolve the political issue at the table. We, the KNU, intend to continue to resolve the political crisis through political means.”

He was terrified about the NUG's statement released on September 7 which appeared to declare war, according to the letter.

Citizens are already living in poverty and have already suffered from various hardships due to civil war. If the NUG fails to withdraw its declaration, it intends to turn our homeland into a battlefield, it said.

He appealed to the NUG to withdraw their state of emergency and refrain from military action based in Kayin State.

Moreover he also appealed for a peaceful political solution to the political crisis in line with the Karen National Union (KNU)'s political stance.
