JC International Airlines, a budget airline from Cambodia, is planning to introduce new flight schedules between Yangon, Mandalay and Siam Reap, according to its CEO and Chief Pilot Captain Anupama Pathirana.

The airline introduced a direct flight between Yangon and Phnom Penh on August 17 with an A320 Airbus aircraft, which can accommodate 180 passengers, three times a week.

“At present, the airline is flying to Mandalay via Macao (China) from Phnom Penh. We are planning a direct flight between Mandalay and Phnom Penh around December. Furthermore, we have plans to introduce new flight schedules from Siam Reap to Yangon and Mandalay,” he said.

“We are providing services to about one million passengers each year and have plans to expand our fleet of planes and flight schedules. Our services cover over 50 per cent of markets in Southeast Asia and South Asia regions. We are expecting to run over 50 flight schedules with 20 planes before the end of 2020,” he said.

Number of tourist arrival through Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw international airports is over 839,000 from January to June 2019, an increase by 29 per cent compared with last year's arrival numbers.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, tourist arrival via cruise liners within a six-month time was reduced by 13 per cent compared to last year.

Tourists visiting via cruise liners are mostly from North America and Western Europe countries and the number of tourists from those countries is declining at present.

Myanmar allowed visa on arrival system to 55 countries and earned visa fees of US$19.27 million from about 400,000 foreign tourists within a three-year period, according to the ministry.
