Free and fair election can be held only when ethnic armed organizations join peace process in accordance with law: Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing

State Administration Council Chairman and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing when meeting with cabinet members of Taninthayi Region government, departmental officials and town elders at the hall of the regional government office in Dawei on January 14 said that election cannot be convened if there is no peace and free and fair election can be held only when ethnic armed organizations join peace process in accordance with law.

In concerning peace, this year Union Day is the diamond jubilee year and 2023 January 4 will be the diamond jubilee anniversary of our Independence. It’s been 75 years and peace is important for more strengthening of sovereignty of the State and development of the country. He said that  when walking towards multi-party democracy system, every citizen must get equal right. In 2008 Constitution, it has been prescribed clearly for the right of each citizen. Election cannot be convened if there is no peace and free and fair election can be held only when ethnic armed organizations join peace process in accordance with law. Therefore, 2022 is set for getting peace in the entire nation and striving for participating of NCA non-signatories to participate in the Nation Wide Ceasefire Agreement, he added.

Senior General said that the Tatmadaw did not seize the State power and it serves the duties under the Constitution (2008) as part of maintaining the strengthening of multiparty democracy in the country. The Union Election Commission was reconstituted in line with the five-point roadmap to inspect the voter lists and other appropriate tasks under the law.
