On the morning of March 10, a mine attack occurred on the Yangon-Mandalay railway section between Minsu and Kyaukse stations in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region. 

The explosion caused significant damage to the railway infrastructure, including the tracks and concrete sleepers. 

A mine explosion occurred on Steel Bridge No. 738 and the adjacent concrete bridges. The explosion resulted in a 2-ft wide damage to the steel rail. An unexploded mine was also discovered at the site.

Due to safety concerns, the railway tracks between Minsu and Kyaukse stations were temporarily closed at 8:50 am. The No. 5 Up Yangon-Mandalay passenger express train had to halt at Myitta Station as a result.

Security forces promptly investigated the site and conducted area security and mine clearance. Myanma Railway staff worked diligently to repair the damaged railway section.

The Kyaukse-Minsu up-rail section was reopened at 1:06 pm, followed by the down-rail section at 3:20 pm. Fortunately, there was no disruption to passenger train operations due to the explosion. However, the schedule for cargo trains had to be postponed.

Since February 1, 2021, insurgent groups have carried out 130 mine attacks in the railway area. These attacks include mining rail bridges and setting fire to station buildings and staff houses.

Despite the challenges, efforts to maintain and repair the railway network continue, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for passengers and cargo.
