On the morning of February 27, the Malwetaung checkpoint, situated on the border area between Mon State and Taninthayi Region, came under attack.

According to local reports, a drone dropped seven bombs, with two of them detonating near the checkpoint and the remaining five exploding in the vicinity.

In response, security forces at the checkpoint fired back using small arms.

As a result of the attack, the Ye-Dawei road was temporarily closed. Authorities shut down the roads between Ye and Dawei townships due to the shooting at the Malwetaung checkpoint. The roads were later reopened around 3:00 pm.

The incident occurred as part of the 77th Mon National Day commemoration. The Mon-Taninthayi five alliance army, including groups such as Dawna Division-4, the Kanpaunk People’s Defense Force, the YAF, the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front-ABDF, the Dawei District People’s Defense Force Division-1, and the Mon State Revolutionary Force-MSRF, dropped the bombs using drones, as documented on their Facebook pages.
