Myanmars Central Body for Summoning Peoples Military Servants, led by Union Minister for Defence Admiral Tin Aung San, has announced a novel approach to military service recruitment, saying that rather than summoning all eligible individuals simultaneously, the process will now be tailored based on location and the ratio of eligible candidates.

The decision was made during the recent meeting No. 1 (1/2024) held in Nay Pyi Taw on February 16.

The Central Body emphasized the urgency of forming district and township level bodies to facilitate the implementation of duties and rules. With approximately 13 million eligible individuals in Myanmar, the recruitment process aims to be efficient and strategic. Notably, only one recruit per village will be enlisted in each training course, ensuring a balanced distribution across regions.

Furthermore, the admiral highlighted that the annual pool of eligible candidates constitutes less than one percent of the population. To achieve their objectives, task forces will be formed to ensure timely completion within specified time frames.

Vice Chairman General Maung Maung Aye stressed the importance of public awareness and education regarding the military service law. State media will play a crucial role in preventing misinformation and criticism, allowing citizens to better understand the process of public military service, he said.
